Greetings!
My name is Lori Taylor and I am an art teacher at the best high school in the state--Park Center Senior High.
I teacher DP Visual Arts and the visual arts technology courses. I absolutely love my job!
My family and I live in Brooklyn Park. You'll frequently see my husband and I chasing our two boys down the streets of Brooklyn Park.
Last month, I started to record most of my lessons and post them to my website. The up-front work was somewhat time consuming, but the pay-off---RIDICULOUSLY ENORMOUS! This idea of virtual teaching puts the responsibility for student learning--back on the student.
ReplyDeleteNo more late hours after school teaching students one-by-one how to do the hundreds of techniques they weren't in class for or don't understand! This is instantaneous differentiation in the classroom. This is going to change my career more than anything ever has. I actually have students come up to me and thank me for doing this--they tell me they learn better from me when I'm talking through a computer than they do when I teach them personally. My guess is some students are too embarrassed to ask questions or don’t want to feel like they are burdening me or their classmates. The videos allow them to replay the lessons as many times as they need to understand the concept.
I can’t say how awesome this is for days you are absent—no more time filling assignments for the substitute to give out. Just record your lesson from home with you high grade fever, post it to your YouTube channel, and embed it in your website.
Here is an example of virtual teaching:
